Rose Cottages, Macroom, Co Cork
Sleeps 1-6 Pets Welcome
Rose Cottages are homely converted farmhouse cottages and apartments, situated just 1 mile off the N22 (2 miles from Macroom), the main Cork-Killarney road, on the Vaughan family farm. These attractive 3 star accommodations feature 1 and 2-bedroomed units sleeping up to 6 people each.

There are two 2-bedroomed apartments arranged around an enclosed patio with outdoor furniture. All of the cottages and apartments come equipped with oil central heating, an open fire, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, tv and telephone. Linen and towels are supplied and pets are welcome.

This is a perfect spot to enjoy the many scenic attractions of the whole Lee Valley area, including the Gearagh wildlife reserve, Gougane Barra National Park, Farran Wood Park and Wildlife Enclosure, Millstreet Country Park, Ballincollig Gunpowder Mill and any number of superb golfing, angling and walking locaions.

There are also many local crafts to enjoy, including Ireland's only toy soldier factory, and of course a selection of fine restaurants and pubs with traditional music in Macroom.

The Lee Valley describes the part of Cork County stretching from Gougane Barra in the west where the river Lee begins to Cork city, and including the catchment area of the Sullane.

It is an area dominated by its waterways and, since people congregated around rivers from earlier times, the Lee Valley and its catchment area is dotted with archaeological pre-Christian sites.

The many shrines and wells dedicated to St Finbarr, St Gobnait, St Lachtan, St Aban, St Michael and St Berrihert from the 7th and 8th centuries testify to strong traditions of pre-Christian religion in the area and the great sanctification work of the saints still venerated. The rich glacial valleys and lakes of the river Lee and its tributaries yield bountiful harvests. Though predominantly agricultural, the Lee has a proud tradition of technological innovation. One of the oldest horizontal mills in Ireland was discovered in Mashanaglass just beside the river Lee as it turns towards Carrigadrohid. The water of Bealick Mill was used to power the elctric street lighting in 1899, the first in Ireland to have such a facility.
